Project Description 2013 Best Commercia Landscape Design Australian Institute of Landscape Designers & Managers (AILDM)
We developed a concept for the entire Maryborough Station Domain Project, merging a variety of spaces including a community hub, playground and performance space around the historic Maryborough Station. The design integrated relevant heritage overlays and implemented a waterwise approach—an especially important aspect due to the longstanding drought conditions affecting the region. This was a critical development for the community, as it was to serve as a key catalyst in bringing the community together—firstly by creating much-needed employment opportunities for local residents, and secondly by resulting in the provision of a public area holding appeal and applicability for use by the whole community. The overall station domain project also included the new functions of existing buildings, including the renewed Maryborough train station and train line, and the landscaping served in joining these aspects together, and creating a sense of community.
